Russ is correct.
Please note that all shared resources (tools, MDAC, etc.) will be at the
highest service pack level regardless of install or update order.

We have a 2 node active/passive cluster running SQL2K SP4. I want to add
another node and make it Active/Active/Passive with the one active node
running the default SQL instance and the other Active running a named
instance with the passive node taking over for both instances in a
failover
scenario. One of the instances needs to be SP3a(vendor requirement) and
the
other SP4. Is this possible? Or would it make more sense to create
another
active/passive cluster and buy two new servers?
You can have multiple instances in a cluster at different service pack
levels.
