I would need an explanation of your entire Virtual environment and the steps
you took to setup the cluster within Virtual Server. I have installed
instances hundreds of times into a Virtual Server environment and never ran
into this issue. My suspicion is that something is not set up correctly on
your cluster so that the install isn't recognizing it as valid to install
to.

I am experiencing the same issue. I even check the box that installs
the failover instance, but it still does not recognize the cluster
install. If you proceed from this point, it looks like the install then
tries to upgrade the existing SQL 2000 instance.

I've set up a 2 node virtual server R2 running Win 2003 enterprise
server
with Svc Pack 1 on each node and have also installed Microsoft
clustering.
All shared drives failover thru cluster administrator fine. I have

completed jinstalling a named instance of SQL2000 with clustering on

server as well. That too is working fine.

My problem comes when attempting to install SQL 2005 (I'm using

developer edition) and trying to install that as a clustered
instance

well. Whether I select to install it as a named instance or a
default
instance, the installation process does not request any virtual
information
that would be required to set this up as a clustered instance.

Is there a special installation to enable and configure clustering
for
SQL
2005 that I'm not aware of or does it not work under virtual server?
Or
does
the developer edition out of MSDN not permit setting up a clustered
SQL
instance?
