Bingo. The SQL installer can't deal with offline groups very well. Try the
same thing with SQL 2005 and the installer crashes before ever asking any
cluster-related questions.

Cheers.
Drives are all fine. However, I think I may be getting somewhere: it's
to do with the fact that there are two other groups, one is a cluster
group (obviously) and the other is an Exchange group. All are on the
active node, but the Exchange group is completely offline.
Here's how I can reproduce the problem:
- I ensure that all three groups are on the active node (node a)
- The Exchange group is offline.
- I reboot both nodes (order doesn't matter: if node b takes over after
the reboots, I just move the groups back to node a)
- Try the setup again on node a - the problem reoccurs.
Now to "fix" it:
- Bring online any of the disk resources in the Exchange group (even
though I'm not using them).
- [optional]: take the resource back offline again.
- Setup now works.
Yes, it really does work - in my environment at least. In fact, setup
continues to work independently of whether any of the disk resources on
the Exchange group are online or not once I've done the fix. Until the
next reboot, that is, and then I'm back to square 1 again.
Weird, eh?
