I uninstalled the following:
SQL Server 2005
Visual Studio 2008
Visual Studio 20005
..Net Framework 3.5
..Net Framework 3.0
..Net Framework 2.0
Then Installed the following:
SQL Server 2005
Try SQL Server Management Studio and it throws up the box that a problem was
encountered and needs to shutdown right when it starts to open the connection
form.
Then I installed the following from the Microsoft site:
..Net Framework 2.0
Try SQL Server Management Studio and it throws up the box that a problem was
encountered and needs to shutdown right when it starts to open the connection
form.
Something is preventing it from opening but doesn't get removed when you
uninstall and I just can't determine what it is.
Thanks.

Hi Allen,.
The SQL server Management studio depends hevaily on a good installation of
the .NET framework. If the SQL server management studio is crashing there
might be multiple reasons to it.I also do not find some more information
regarding the type of crash, like whether we are getting a dump or some
error message/number.That should point us to the right direction.
As of now I can only suggest you the following :
1.Uninstall SQL Server 2005 tools completely.
2.Uninstall all known instances of the .net installations by using the
following tool :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=aae7fc63-d405-4e13-
909f-e85aa9e66146&DisplayLang=en#Overview
3.Install a freshly downloaded .net framework 2.0
4.Try to re-install the SQL Server tools now.
5.If this resolves the issue fine, else check if you are able to open the
management studio by double clicking on any saved SQL file and let us know
