Re: Setup of 2005 Dev edition Client Components fails

I re-installed .Net 2.0 and it still fails. Then I uninstalled ALL of the
..Net versions (1.1, 2.0 & 3.0) then re-installed .Net versions 1.1 and 2.0.
The install of SQL Server Developer Edition still fails. I am now getting the
following message from the System Configuration Check:

EDITION CHANGE CHECK
- Edition Change Check (Warning)
Messages
Edition Change Check

To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different
edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the
command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter.

The install still fails with the same error messgage. But checking the
Application Event Log the large number of error messages that I listed below
are gone. The only error messsage that I got is:

Event ID: 107
Report Server Windows Service (MSSQLSERVER) cannot connect to the report
server database.

I am going to try and install once again.

I can suggest you to download .Net 2.0 and install it seperately (just give
it a try and see if it installs it correctly.)

You can download it from the following address:

Also, please be sure your Windows is up to date. And try SQL Server setup
again.

There are others but I think you are beginning to see a pattern here...

Also got the following:

Event ID: 1013
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools -- A component that you have
specified in the ADD_LOCAL property is already installed. To upgrade the
existing component, refer to the template.ini and set the UPGRADE property
to
the name of the component.

Event ID: 11724
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools -- Install started.

Event ID: 11708
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Notification Services -- Installation
failed.

Hopefully this helps...
Thanks,
Scott

Ok then. Have you checked Event Viewer after you get such errors about
setting up Dev. Ed.?

If you see something in the Event Viewer, please share it with us.
I need the exact message or at least Event ID of it.

I did uninstall the Exress ed. The question is did it uninstall
completely.
Then I installed the developer edition 10 different times. All of those
failed. I would be happy to re-install Express, then remove, then
re-install
the developer edition if I thought it would fix the problem. But I hate
to
do
that if it just fails all over again.

Hi Scott,

Some say that you need to uninstall Express Edition completely first
and
then try installing Developer Edition and then reinstall Express
Edition.

I have not faced any problem like this yet so I didn't have a chance
to
try
it out. I saw this problem and suggested solution on a forum once.

Let us know the result please?

I installed SQL Server Experess edition initially. After I
uninstalled
Express I tried to install the Developer edition. The install is
failing
for
Notification Services, Integration Services and Client Components
(or
Workstation Components). Each fails with the message:

"A component that you have specified in the ADD_LOCAL property is
already
installed. To upgrade the exisiting component, refer to the
template.ini
and
set the UPGRADE property to the name of the component."

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Thanks,
Scott
