I would really suggest that you open a case with PSS. Remember that if the issue really is a bug, which to me it seems to be, you will not be charged.

I don't know what else to tell you. If this is SQL 2005
tables you are trying to open, check the compatibility level
of the database, try running a trace to see where the error
may be.
Double check and make sure the client has SP 2 applied, not
just the server.
