As far as I know, you can connect to a 64 bit SQL Server using 32 bit tools.
SQL Server gets to use the extra bits for extra performance. They should
not prevent you from connecting.

And to come back to my problem: I think with help of the SQL Server admins...closed connections - but all of these errors are in the version which used ...
