That kind of sounds like your MDAC installation is messed up
- try just reinstalling the most recent MDAC. You may also
want to check your MDAC installation using component
checker. You can download component checker and MDAC
versions from:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/mdac/downloads/default.aspx
