I would just have a conversation with the person you are interviewing
about what they've done with SQL Server, how they implemented various
features, etc. I don't always feel that pointed test-like questions are
always that useful. I almost never remember DBCC commands and just
quickly look them up when needed... and I've been doing this for way too
long.
We used to make prospective employees spend a half a day with our
company working on a mock project to test their coding skills. While it
wasn't always easy for someone to take off 1/2 a day or a full day in
some cases, the project oriented approach seemed to be a good way to
test someone's skills in table design and coding. Even if they couldn't
come close to finishing a project, you could easily see how things were
architected. However, this wouldn't normally work with someone that has
experience as they are usually less willing to jump through hoops during
an interview... but then again, the job market stinks...
