Hi,
This may not work for you, but I think that you can use the Access linked tables feature to expose data from a SQL Server database just like if it was a table from the MDB. The applications - Access VBA code or external EXE apps - won't nottice that the source of the data has changed.

We're not using SQL 2000. I'm trying to sync Microsoft Access 2000 (server
database) and SQL Server Compact 3.5 (client database).
Unfortunately, I can't replace the Access database with anything else
(because that is what the legacy application uses).
