Re: Access Sync service

Thanks for the information, it will definitely come in handy.

I might look at RDA with Access, and it's great that I don't have to use IIS.

I was gonna use ADS, and that still might be a viable option.

The last option was Sync Services which I just downloaded. At least I think I did. I'm not sure if I just got the Books OnLine, but I was gonna try that out even though it is still in Beta 2.

I'll go back and look at ADS and see if I can't read some more on it. I just bought some books on Mobile .NET Development and a book on the Compact Edition. I'll see if any of these have a section on ADS.

Thanks!
Tom

Hey Tom,

Pardon me for jumping in so late.

RDA with SQL Server - IIS is required
RDA with Access - IIS is NOT required

ADS (Access Database Synchronizer) or SWA (Sync With Access) comes with
a
HTTP Listner which is sufficient enought for RDA with Access.

Please note that ADS is meant to sync SQL CE on DEVICE with Access on
DESKTOP.

The moment you cradle it, HTTP Listner starts running. To make sure the
communication happens smoothly, you may need to open the port for HTTP
Listner packet reception port (its not port 80) but some ephemeeral range
port number.

Please use MSDN forum as we will watch that closely.

Thanks,
Laxmi

Never mind .... I just read in another message that the Access Data
Syncronizer and RDS both use IIS.
Damn It!

You'd think Microsoft would be much farther along in along us to sync data
between their Access or SQL Server with the storage unit on the device. Do
they really want us to use IIS??????????????????? A major-gaping security
hole you could drive the Queen Mary
through????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

All the bad memories of Microsoft Development from 10 years ago are starting
to re-surface ....
nice to know that some things never change.
