Distribution Point for VPN Clients

I have a few smaller offices that have no local DC and connect to our primary office via a hardware VPN router. Desktops (historically) were built in another office and shipped to them, and SMS updates them as needed by downloading from the remote distribution point first. I'm about to implement OSD and now need to think about ways to provide those VPN offices with a more local service. My question is this - if I put a member server in those offices and add it as an additional distribution point for the office in which these users VPN into, what do I need to do to ensure that the Advanced Client always pulls data from the local source in their office, and not from the distribution point in the office they are VPNing into? Or does someone have a better solution?
