Re: OSD Image install fail

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Issue resolved. The trouble would appeared to have been with the transfer of
the ISO image. The "code 23" (by Michaels report) indicates CRC error.
We've since has successful restoration of this image after downloading from
ftp using SmartFTP. Thanks Michael.

I believe we're having similar issue. The osdinstallwim.log indicates error...

Received WIM_MSG_ERROR. Path - C:\WINDOWS\Installer\63beb.msp. Code - 23
It seems to be raised in the imginstaller.cpp:60 <-- perhaps this is line#?

The file indicated does not exist in specified location. My best guess is
there was some corruption in my download of the ISO from network location.

Background: Image is built, then pkged into single ISO for download. We
download and burn ISO. Then we boot from CD to WinPE and select the OSD Pkg
from the CD.

Where is the reference to the error codes found in log files?

Thanks.

After the failure, you can boot to a generic Windows PE CD to get the file
from C:\MININT\SMSOSD\OSDLOGS. Or, you can follow the process in the OSD
User's Guide of using the OSDSHELL.LAB.EXE so that you can press F8 during
the "Initializing Windows PE" phase to get a command prompt. (This would
require that you have a repeatable failure because you'd have to start the
command prompt well before the failure occurred.)

Michael,

I am having the same issue with OS installs. Where can I locate the
OSDInstallWIM.log file? And how do I retrieve it if it's written to the
client PC?

Thanks.
Curtis

You will need to look at the OSDInstallWIM.log to see why it failed -
that
error number is fairly generic. Some possible causes I can think of:

1. Files or folders on the system that can't be deleted because SYSTEM
doesn't have access.
2. Network error accessing the OS.WIM file from the distribution point.

Hi,

I'm having a slight problem refreshing a computer using the OSD tool,
everything seems to go ok right up until the point it starts to copy
the
image file then it fails with the error message

"The action "Install WIM Image" failed with the exit code 2147500037"

I know the image itself is not corrupt as it loads fine when taking a
machine from 2000 to XP or when installing on a new computer. I am
only
having the problem when refreshing an existing XP install.

Is there something I am missing or need to differently when refreshing
an
image?

Thanks in advance.
