Re: Can you use OSD with an image on the local machine?

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

You can do it but there are some limitations.

1- TheOSD package (all the OSD files that are normally within an SMS package for an image
package) must be on a drive other than the C: drive

2- The image restore cannot be initiated from the SMS client. That is, you will have to
initiate the restore process by booting the workstation using an OSD Operating System
Image Installation CD or from a RIS server containing an image of that CD.

3- The deployment process cannot be automated through the silent install process. You need
to use the OSD installation wizard (OSDInstallCD /oncd) and point to the drive containing
a copy of the OSD package.

4- If you happen to have custom actions scripts/programs, you still need to access those
scripts/programs over the network.

I encountered situations where the process failed because it complained that is could noy
copy a file (osdagent.exe). I resolvel the problem by removing the MININT directory from
the C: drive and removed any OSD files in the prefetch directory "del
C:\windows\prefetch\osd*.*"
