RE: Push method question

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

You can create a special group for laptops and one for pcs(minus laptops) and
there is a server collection. for laptops I always suppress restarts. Since
they are road warrriors and such you don't need it restarting so set that
program properites to suppress restart.

Basically in the package folder you will have several programs (laptop,
computer, server) or however you want to do it.

Draw it all out on paper and then change the program switches. When you
create your package on patch tuesday it iwll ask if you want to adv now, say
no. Since you have your adv setup to run when you want to. I hope this
makes sense, I kept walking away from desk.

Thanks for the response and advice. So, I may have set the time wrong, and
it sounds like some wierd rerun rule didn't apply. If I create a new advert
it should always run according to schedule.

On the restarts, I'm wondering how to accomplish that now. We have desktops
that I can force reboot at night (haven't gotten to the servers yet) but we
have laptops as well and I would hate for a package scheduled to run at night
suddenly start and reboot a laptop when it's turned on in the morning.

then in the manditor set it for 11pm. (always check the dates).
This ensures it won't kick off early. If this is what you did then you
might have more than 1 adv and you need to track that one down. I have
several patch adv and packages. So during the day it will patch but won't
force the restart. I have one when they are logged out at night to run the
patch and restart if necessary. It can be a delicate thing to setup.

Never click apply until you are ready. It could have kicked off early if
you click apply and clients are getting their policy refresh. Just for the
time being set the "adv start time" to like 1 month in the future. Set the
whole package and adv up and verify. Then go back and set the date to
correctly.
I had the same problem too when I first started. Lucky for me my package
was set to suppress restarts.

I'm attempting to implement SMS as our patch management solution. Getting
our machines to a baseline, I created a large package/program with 73 patches
to get our worst machines. I sent it to a couple test machines with no
problems.

I then created a new advertisement using a new collection with the same
package/program and advertised it for 5:00pm and mandatory at 11:00pm. I
found out 3 hours later at 2pm that it had started running immediately at
11am and began rebooting machines at 2pm. What did I do wrong? Is this a
bug? or some cryptic intended method the way it's supposed to run? Thanks.
