Re: Disabling a distribution point

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

That's exactly how I interpreted it.
As stated before, I would assume that doing so would uninstall the Bits virtual directories.

Leaving your dp, a bit crippled.
You could potentially fix this, by disabling bits on the server share after you "disabled" the regular server dp.

And afterwards enable bits again.

THIS IS UNTESTED, so please verify in a test lab first.

I misworded this. I meant just unchecking "Use this site system as a distribution point" for that server, but leaving it checked for the server share.

I would like to disable the distribution role of my central/primary/secondary sites, and instead use server shares (On the same server as each site itself, I'm just creating the DP as a server share to control it's location.) . I've had the server shares containing all our jobs for months now, but it sucks when someone creates a package, and either by accident or misknowledge, adds the site server's distribution role instead of the server share's one.

So what I want to know is... can doing this have some other affects? Hopefully I've been clear here....
Are your distribution points bits-enabled?

Hum, then I am afraid that if you disable the dp on the server that the virtual directory will be deleted which would kill the dp on the server share as well.
