Disabling a distribution point

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I would like to disable the distribution role of my
central/primary/secondary sites, and instead use server shares (On the same
server as each site itself, I'm just creating the DP as a server share to
control it's location.) . I've had the server shares containing all our jobs
for months now, but it sucks when someone creates a package, and either by
accident or misknowledge, adds the site server's distribution role instead
of the server share's one.

So what I want to know is... can doing this have some other affects?
Hopefully I've been clear here....
