Re: Force Outlook.exe to close before installing antivirus (AV) cl

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

There are 2 main tools that I used.

- PSshutdown
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/psshutdown.mspx

- SMS installer script that just force a reboot.

I would advertise these to the client 1 minute before the other package
would run. Thereby it would force the PC to reboot and as soon as it came
back up the other advertisement would trigger.

You could just create a package that does nothing more then displaying a
message that the machine will be rebooted.
a vbs with a msgbox line in it.
Potentially with a small delay to let people save if they are still logged
in.

Configure this package so that sms reboots after running.

Then make you antivirus package dependant on the script.

OK - I know how to force a reboot after a package is installed, but how
do you do it prior to installing a package? I must be missing something,
can you please elaborate?

Thanks!

That makes good sense to me as well, but how do you force the reboot?
Can SMS do that? Please pardon my ignorance, I still have much to
learn.

Basically, I did the same thing. At 2:00 I would force a reboot of all
WS and then only install the application when no one was logon.

We tried this trick, it didn't always close it out nicely enough to
install
the AV software.

We just did the install at log off and when no user is logged on.

Hi all,

Is there a way to force outlook.exe to close before installing an AV
client
using SMS? I found a command line (kill) to do this, but I'm not
sure how to
implement it to close outlook before it runs the AV installer
package.

Should I create a package and program with the command line in it,
then
specify the outlook killer to run prior to the AV installer?

Any advice would be most welcomed...

Yups, it's an option in the program you create.
