Great! It does help! Thank you so much!

Best wishes,

Well, you can use dfs-r but you can't really mix it with sms distribution
points.

What you do to use dfs-r is as I already stated, you create your dfs file
system with replicas.
You create empty packages in sms (package does not contain source files)
You create a program that points to the dfsroot for execution (eg:
\\dfsroot\software\winzip\setup.exe /q)
That's it.

When you advertise this to a client, the client will figure out the
dfs-thingy and launch from the local dfs source.

There is improvement in sccm 2007, the enitre replication system is being
replaced by the dfs-r technology, so we get binary delta replication from
site to site; site to dp; dp to branch dp.

Hi Kim,

I am looking at the same DFSR solution for WIM files distribution in SMS.
I want to replicate the SMS packages from an existing DP to a new server
(without using SMS DP wizard to copy the packages), and then whether I
can add the replicated server as a new DP and make SMS site server know
that it is an updated DP? (mayby I need to refresh the status after each
change)

Could you please let me know the details of the white paper you
mentioned? Thank you!

In addition, I will be much appreciated if you can give any other advice
for the distribution (not the Delta Replication, you know, it's not
efficient for several GBs WIM package). Is there any improvement in SCCM
2007?

Thanks again! Tom

Just copy your sources using dfsr.
Then build sms packages where you specify that the package doesn't have
source files
Then add a program that references your dfs root like
\\dfsroot\softwdistshare\setup.exe

I could probably turn these little 3 lines into a 15 page white paper if
you want, but that's all it takes.

Hi guys, I am designing the DFSR for a new project with each remote
site have
a DFS file server and an SMS 2003 server. I thought perhaps naively
that I
could have distributed all the source packages through DFSR but someone
mentioned that SMS will then copy or create its own distribution
package. I
don't understand the point of that in my opinion. Does anyone have any
thoughts, advice or links that can show me how DFSR can be used and
intergrated with SMS 2003

Thanks

TC
