I guess I do not understand why you do not make the advertisement for when nobody is ligged on and put the uninstall as a pre-requisite for the install
It would run at night and uninstall the old app then reboot and install the new app
I do not know of any native way to do what you are asking other than the above.

Hi..! I was wondering, is there a way to have SMS halt a computer,
lock the keyboard/mouse etc. during software install? Would solve a
lot of my problems over here if there was an addin or something which
would be able to do that!
I have a lot of packages, and a lot of packages are updates/upgrades.
I usually run them "when no user is logged on", ergo, when the
computer is rebooted, the program runs. However; some larger
applications require an uninstall before the installation of the new
version. It's kinda hard to perform a silent uninstall when the user
is running the program. So, is there a way to have SMS lock the
workstation preventing users from:
* logging on during an upgrade, OR
* starting programs during an install.
I know WOL would be a good solution to this, BUT, we have a lot of
mobile users, which means a lot of laptops. These guys come in once in
a while, so WOL isn't a good solution for them..
Anyone around here know if something like that exists? TIA!
Unfortunately, running the software at night isn't a good option,
cause a lot of users take their laptops home. Our company exists out
of almost 50% laptop users. We don't use wake on lan because of that
aswell. Would patch the desktops, sure, but not the laptops. A lot of
desktop users turn off their pc's at the end of the day, hence,
another problem.
Running a program when no user is logged on usually fixes the problem,
but, when it's a large package, a user might still be able to start
the program when it's already uninstalling.
