Re: VPN software distribution

Thanks for the input!

A little more bg info:
Previous version(s) of the Cisco VPN client (4.6 and below) were installed
onto our standard desktop image using the InstallShield package. We are
having a hard time getting the previous versions uninstalled cleanly not to
mention 4.8.(latest) to install with minimum reboots. Following Matthew's
suggestion I found that there was a .pdf for the client and that my package
guys had not tried using it yet. They will be testing it today.

Hi
Just my 2 cents here, but i guess you know this already as you deployed the
previous version, do not forget to make a 'Download and Install' deployment,
as it won't support deploying directly from a share.

It upgraded itself when I passed it down from 4.8.xx to a newer 4.8. I am
assuming it will update to 4.9 just as smooth, I hope. Otherwiese you should
be able to use the msiexec /x to remove the old one. You must make sure you
get the MSI version from Cisco to install from. I then copy the pcr
(profile) file over to the profile folder and its all set. We also push out
the Microsoft VPN client to our machines so our laptops can connect through 2
different vpn systems if necessary.
the most recent version from cisco aslo had the SMS PDF file so you can
create a package from a definition file. msiexec /q /i vpnclient_setup.msi

How would you recommend de-installation of previous versions, installation
of 4.8 and plan for the upgrade to the upcoming version 4.9?

Thanks for any insight!

Yes! as a matter of fact I just did this last week.
We also have it passing over the profile so it is "pre setup"

What would you like to know ?
