It seems like /q is the right argument for MSAgent. I don't know what
version AgtX0401.exe is, but the download I got was packaged in an
'MSAgent.exe'. I got it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/msagent/downloads/user.asp
I still suggest running this from the start menu of a test system (for
example, "C:\Temp\MSAgent\MSAgent.exe" /q), to see if an unexpected popup
dialog is asking you to confirm something. If you don't see such a dialog, I
might suggest making a test package that is visible to the user (i.e., do not
select Run: Hidden) to see if the package behaves differently in SMS.
For example, one dialog that halts some setup scripts is the "Open File -
Security Warning" dialog . I don't think Windows would display this dialog
for an SMS package, but if you believe it is, take a look at KB889815 for
details on muting it: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=889815
To answer your questions:
1. Yes, you can set the max run time per package:
Package Properties
Requirements Tab
Maximum Allowed Run Time [minutes]
2. No, I don't think you can run 2 advert's at once. However, I don't think
you would want to: applications that use the Windows Installer service, for
example, would fail inconsistently because msiexec.exe can only install one
MSI at a time.
Good luck...

It is actaully MSagent from microsoft. No log and no event log. nothing. Also.
after 720 minutes time out error came in sms but iit is for failed due to
timeout from client. On top of that until this advertisement is not complete
i can't run any new advertisement on same machine . When i m running new
advertisement on same machine it is saying that previous advertisement must
first finish.
Can i reduce application execution time out from 720 minutes to low?
How can i install any new advertisement eventhough old is still in pending?

A few questions that might help you answer the problem:
Have you ever tried interactively running this program with the /q argument?
If you haven't, then try it and see if there is an interactive popup dialog
you need to address.
Can the setup package be made to log? If so, what does the log say?
Finally, check the Windows event log for entries during or after the
install. If you're lucky, an error/warning/info event in the Windows event
log might clue you in.
Good luck, and please let me know how this turns out...

I am trying to install one microsoft component that is exe file using sms.
Its name is AgtX0401.exe. I m using package with parameter agtx0401 /q for
silent install. But when advertisement executes from sms 2003, it says
Running in sms reporting then after 8 hours following message cames. how to
sort it out?
The program for advertisement "SQ82002C" ("SQ800017" - "AgxComp") exceeded
the maximum allowed run time of 720 minute(s). Systems Management Server
(SMS) has stopped monitoring the program, and is unable to determine the
status of the program. SMS will not automatically attempt to run this program
again.
Possible causes: The program might have taken longer to run than expected,
or the program might have experienced problems while running.
Possible solution: Make sure the maximum allowed run time specified for the
program allows enough time for the program to finish running. If the program
requires user input, ensure the program properties allow the user to interact
with the program.
