Re: Deploying packages to Users instead of PC's

Hi,
We advertise our packages mostly to (roaming) users with the program
per-user unattended. In our packages we set security on the installation
folder for the same security group we use for the user collection. We use
the same package for installation on 'public' computers where any user can
use the software by running the per-system unattended program. This is done
by running a vbscript (or cacls.exe) after the installation of the package.
The secyrity scripts sets the security back to 'Domain Users'.
The combination of a per-system unattended installation on a system and a
user who has installed the same package on a per-user basis can sometimes
give a problem. The per-system installation try's to configure the user part
of the installation but this conflicts with the per-user part which already
exists. We can solve this by running the command 'msiexec.exe /fu {????}'
during the logon or by using the ActiveSetup feature.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Can anyone offer some advice to me on this :-
I are currently adding PC's to AD groups for different types of software
packages which is then queried against our SMS Collections..etc and
eventually the package installs. I am wondering if there is anyway of
pushing applications to users but only allowing specific users to access
them, so the applications can be installed onto any pc but only certain
users
can access/run them? Whats the best of doing this?
Hope that makes Sense,
Cheers
Gareth
