    You are correct that each client that has run a scan would have a
    results.xml file which will list all the updates missing or installed on
    that machine. This is purely for informational purpose for you and you don;t
    have to take any action on the file. The same is true for inventory.exe and
    convert.exe, these are the undelying scanners used by the office inventory
    tool to scan your machine. As long as you ran the setup successfully for
    either SMS office scan tool or the SMS security scan tool, you don't have to
    do anything extra. The setup process would create all the required SMS
    objects for you and you have to target the right resources. Once the
    targeted resources have been scanned, you would see the missing/installed
    updates in the software updates nodes in the SMS admin UI and then you can
    selectively authorize the updates you want.
