404 means that client cannot find HTTP resourse on the server (it is a HTTP
file not found error).
Check any errors on MP. Look in CCMExec.log and NT Event log. Verify that
service (SMS Agent Host) is running on the MP. and you can get MPLIST and
MPCERT correctly.

BTW, if you are running MP on Windows 2003 server then make sure you have
BITS installed and WebDav enabled.
