Distributing Office 2003 apps using an Administrative Image on a DFS Share

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I have create an Administrative Image of Project 2003 Standard on DFS share.
I then customized the image using the Custom Installation Wizard in the
Office 2003 Resource Kit. I Also modified the setup.ini file to run in quiet
mode and reference the new MST file.

The package installs as expected when I just log on to a client and browse
out to the dfs share and run setup.

I am trying to use SMS2003 (with the advanced clients) to send a program to
certain clients telling them to execute setup.exe from the dfs share. I
created a package with no source defined. I then created a program and for
the command line I entered the complete path to the setup.exe (ex.
\\cha-llp.com\dfs\pkg\Project2003Std\setup.exe. I then advertised this to my
test client. The client recieved the advertisement.

When it runs, or when I click "run now" it appears to start the silent
install momentarily, then nothing happens. Running processes indicate that
setup.exe and msiexec.exe are running. In the windows\temp folder are the
attached log files indicating that msiexec was started.

I have tried configuring the package to use administrative rights, and also
to use administrative rights (with the "use software installation account"
box checked).

I have tried running the advertised program from the client while logged in
as an administrator and a regular user, both results are the same.

I suspect that when setup.exe calls msiexec that it is not doing it in the
context of an account with installation rights, but I am not sure?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, as I have been beating my
head for days on this!!!

Thanks,
Doug
