Re: SMS Setup Fails - Remote SQL Admin rights

Problem is resolved - finally!

Although we had already verified DNS records earlier on it turned out to be
DNS causing the problem after all: we discovered an old record in one of the
reverse lookup zones. Same IP but different hostnames.

Have you tested to ensure that the computer account is a full admin on the
SQL box by using the AT commandlien trick?

I'm working on the installation of SMS2003 SP3. The SQL DB is hosted on
a
remote server.

When running the SMS2003 setup (advanced security) an error occurs: it
appears as if the local computer has no rights on the SQL server
although
I've verified and made sure the computer account is a member of the
local
administrators on the SQL box.

Both servers are fresh windows2K3 installations and no other software
(except SQL2005) is installed on them. Both servers also reside in the
same
location so there are no firewalls involved.

Strangely enough I've tried running the SMS installation on a 3rd box
in
the
environment using the same SQL backend and there the installation went
smoothly. I used the same procedure to do the installation and all I
basically did was adding the computer account of the SMS server to the
local
admins of the SQL box.

Anybody has any ideas on how to further troubleshoot and fix this ... ?
