Re: Ran ccmclean on site server, what are implications???

Hi Matthew,
i ran the synctool command line in a cmd running under system account using
a batch file:
It seems to run fine,download the cab file and compare hash values
Can you find anything that might give any indication that could be related
to the package files not downloading.

Concerning Patchdownloader , that is used to retrieve the cab file from
microsoft right? Looking at the log below it successfully downloads it.
Even if there would be any issue with not being to download the cab, the
sync tool program should first be able to get downloaded into the local
cache and run to even get into those issues.


The PackageSrc shared folder containing Microsoft Update Tool resides on
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Updates Inventory Tool\PkgSource.
I even added permissions for the server to access this share by adding
SURAPP003$ and giving it full ntfs permissions.
The sync tool only has to retrieve the files from the distribution share
folder and copy it to SMS_CCM\Cache on the same machine but it does not
start, only created the package folder.

I tried running it with Run administrative rights and with Use Software
Installation Account which is a domain admin account so i cant belief its
related to lack of permissions.

I am going to try to configure a new advertisement to see if that resolves
it. I do not want to delete the existing adv since im not really confident
with deleting packages/advertisements that i didnt create.

I wonder if the account doesn't have access to dl the file or something.
This can be changed by using the patchdownloader file. Obviously if it
can
be run locally then it is either permission for the local system to pull
from
the internet or something with the adv. You could create a new adv,
delete
this one and rest to see what is going one. Maybe a policy jam. A new
adv
would circumvent this.

The Microsoft Update Tool advertisement that is the same package but
using
Microsoft Tool program deploys fine on client computers, so it really
baffles me that the advanced client that resides on the sms
server(mp,dp.etc) is not able to retrieve the package files. If its a
problem with Sync program of the package at least the files should
transfer
and an error should occur when sync program is run.


I checked advanced client system management in control panel in it lists
the
sms server as management point


Is there any other log or way to find out why the files arent
transferred.
according to ContentTransfermanager.log the job get suspended but there
is
no reason given for this. If you look at the first time (around 16:10
pm )
the transfer job gets suspended at 16:10:53pm and then every hour over
and
over again.


I am more or less ready to give up on this and manually donwload the
wsus..cab file by hand, copy it over to itmu folder and update microsoft
update tool manually which basicly is what sync should do, right?

Any advice is really appreciated,

Later in the day i will run the sync command under system context in a
dosbox to test how it runs.
I already did this once and it ran without problems, but it wont hurt to
do
it step by step.

Right click on the package>all tasks > Update distribution points

This will tell you that it is going to send a new copy to all the dps..
Also go in to the package > distribution points> right click on your
dps
and
make sure you see their properties.

It will not fix the DP found problem but it will fix the problem
with
updating the server and other information. If the content is not
up-to-date
then the client will not download it. To run the sync the next
time.
Do
a
manaul update on the package and send it to the DPs. Then tell the
sync
tool
to run. This way the package is updated, sync will run and it will
update
the package again (for the next run).

Also copy the sync in to a batch file or cmd file and run it from
the
command line to see if the program will run manually. Watch the
sycn
log
in
the ccm folder to see what happens...


If this works then you can work backwards to make sure it works thru
sms.

Do you have the package autoupdating after the sync runs. If you
have

sync runningat 3:30pm every patch tuesday then set the package to
autoupdate
at say 4:00pm or shorter.

The advertisemen with the same package with Microsoft Tool
program
runs
without problems on two test clients on a daily basis but the
Sync
tool
program/advertisement doesnt run succesfully, keeps reporting
waiting.

Since the Sync tool runs on the site server that also is dp i do
not
understand how it cannot locate a matching DP (according to
CAS.log)

Anyone have an idea why this might occur and how to resolve
this?

I even ran the syncxml.exe /s /site SURAPP003 /code SUR /package
SUR0000C
/target \\SURAPP003\PackageSrc
under system account in a cmd box and it ran successfully.

The SMS Cache of sms client on sms site resides in
D:\SMS_CCM\Cache
as
far
as i can tell ( is this correct or is there a way to check for
its
location)
and that folder remains empty.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.
