I went into the SQL Server Enterprise Manager just now and started looking
through the tables and such, and what is in SMS matches both what is in
there, and what is not. All of the collections, IP ranges for our network,
Advanced Clients installed and not, etc., all show up just as they do in
SMS... however all of the tables having anything to do with software or
hardware inventory are totally empty. I'm at a loss as to where this
information is going to.

Sean - I have tried some 30 different machines, all with advanced client
installed, and none of them show any hardware. This is why I posted in
here... it seems to me as if it should be working... and yet it is not.

No worries, I know how difficult these issues can get.
I've checked the logs you sent me. It seems like hardware inventory works
just fine. Please do the following steps to verify:
1.In SMS Admin Console expand Collections node
2.Click "All systems"
3.Right click on one of the computer and navigate to "All Tasks"
4.Click "Start Resource Explorer"
5.Expand Hardware node in Resource Explorer
6.Check if there's any data in the list (eg: in processor it has data
like
"Current Clock Speed" "Addres Width" etc.)
Since there is still a chance that some clients have problems on Hardware
inventory, you can check some other computers to make sure.
