Well darn, i must be missing something simple then to make the push.

You don't really need to extend the schema to push..
You need to extend the schema to be able to publish data to active
directory.
You need data published in active directory to do automatic sitecode
discovery or you need to have a server locator point installed, and have
entries for your slp and management point in wins.
If you have any choice just extend the schema, it'll make your life a whole
lot easier.

Thankyou for responding so promptly. I believe i have corrected the
problem
with the management point... dont know how i missed that checkbox :)
Do i need to have the schema extended to be able to push the client agent?

Two issues here:
1) it doesn't like you have installed a management point. The location
you
are referring to allows you to select a default management point, you
can't
select a default if no mp is installed yet. (Mp's are installed through
site
settings, site systems.)
2) You don't have enough permissions in AD.
This is what you should ask for:

I have been mostly successful in installing sms2003r2 with sql2005. I
am
not
an domain admin, but have many a/d rights in my department. Basically
i
manage my segment of the network. I have one error and its with
sms_heirarchy_manager, and i am assuming from the text, thats because i
dont
have sufficient rights in the systems management container on a/d. I
dont
know if i can get sufficient rights in my OU to make a difference with
this
software, and am not exactly sure what to ask for. If it requires
additional
rights further up the tree, im sure its a 'no'.
Anyway, i am stuck at a spot in trying to deploy the agent, i cannot do
this
until i define a management point... which it will not let me do. When
i
click on the radio button next to management point, the drop down list
for
server name is empty, and it wont let me type anything into it. Is the
error
mention above the problem, or am i missing something simple here. I
checked
the permissions, and i do have the appropriate permissions as far as i
can
tell for all options of the security rights folder.
You guys and gals are great... thanks in advance.
