Also, I did the Capacity Planning for my site and got the following
output.
Assuming an even distribution of clients, deploy 1 Primary Site
Server(s) at this location, each with the following:
Number of processors: 1 x 1 GHz.
Memory: 1 GB minimum
Number of disk arrays: 4 x SCSI Disk Arrays;one for OS, one for SMS,
one for SQL DB and one for packages; Amount of storage: minimum of 1 year
worth of packages
Number of NIC's: 1 @ 100Mbps
Comments: Disk arrays can be a single disk, or multiple disks
depending on budget and fault tolerance needs. Consult hardware provider
for recommendations. Number of clients supportable will depend on
frequency and volume of SWD.
Additional Comments:
Can I have a single array and have one single large partition where I
could install my OS, SMS, SQL DB and packages?
Yes you can, no issues there... just FYI... here is some "real life"
information for you. I checked one of my sites that has 2,300 clients
installed, for the database; I've allocated 3000MB for the data and 500MB
for the log file. I've got approx 500MB free space in the data portion of
the SQL Server database. At this site, I run SMS and SQL Server on the same
server RAID5 array. The server was built with an 8GB system partition, the
remainder of the drive allocated to a logical drive with 60GB available.
Now, at this site and I had the budget :), I've got 2 other servers that are
distribution points for the site.
