RE: Issue creating Secondary Site

I would say that you might want to try to re-install the secondary site.
What method did you use to create the secondary?

When I the problem of it just sitting at pending, I had a problem with the
way I setup the addresses. Check your settings at the Site Settings-
Addreses and see if you have the name as you have called it. What do you
have as the Destinatino site code? Site SErver name? and Account. Also check
your schedule and rate limis. I have the all set to wide open, with no
limiting factors.

How many other Secondaries have you setup? I don't think they talking
because in the sender log of the secondary you should see thinks like
Created sending thread
and the your server name should pop up as well as a "passed the xmit file
text, use the existing connection"

I had a $#%#$% time geting it to setup the first time. I think I
re-installed the secondary about 4 times before I got it all down. I also
noticed that the groups on the central site didn't update when they should so
I had to manually add the machines to the listings so the secondaries could
talk to SQL.

I have gone into a package that was not included on the secondary site
already and I have gone into Manage Distribution Points and added the
secondary site server, switched over to the despool.log on the secondary
server and all I get is "Waiting for ready instruction...." as it has been
all through the log file since site creation.

I have also checked the Status Messages for the Site in System Management
Server and I get a tick and OK, no errors have appeared in here.

Just to recap I still only have CAP_SITE and SMS folders appearing on the
secondary site

Do this, have the despool.log file on the secondar open (preferable with
Trace32) On your central site pick a package that hasn't been sent to the
Secondary. If you don't have one then just create a test package. At the
momenty you add the package to your secondary distribution point, jump over
to your log file. Capture from that point for the next 2 or 3 mins. You
should see in there where your package was received you should also see:

Received package <Package id> version X
Forward package status for pkg SYS00049 to site <code>

If you don't see them then there is communication problem. I did see where
your certificates where passing correctly. Have you verified that your
secondary is ok. In your status messages on your central site?

The way I installed the second site was to install on the secondary site and
check in with the primary site, which it seemed to do, from there nothing has
happened even after I published the packages to the secondary site from the
primary.

Sorry struggling a little here.

no it will create on its own. After I setup my secondary it took a while
since sms sends the pck file down and extacts it on the secondar site. My
secondary servers are virtual so this might have something to do with it.

Check the sender log on the central site, See if you have a SMSPKG folder
with pck files in them. Check also in the despool.log for something like
this...

This is your main thing to find: Your package ID and the version sent from
central to secondary.
Received package SYS00049 version 1

I had a feeling that this was the case! I have added the DP to all of the

secondary site, do I need to create this manually eg. copy over from the
primary server?

Hi,

I am new to SMS so please bare with me on this!

We have a functioning SMS 2003 SP2 running in our environment and I am
trying to setup an additional secondary site. The two servers are in the same
domain and can talk to each other, both ping and resolve each other hostnames.

I have installed SMS on the secondary server (as a secondary site) and it
appears under my primary site after a few minutes, after this nothing seems
to happen, the SMS packages are not getting pushed down (I have left it
overnight). Below is what appears in the sender.log:

~We have 0 active connections $$<SMS_LAN_SENDER><Fri Dec 08 08:31:56.157

$$<SMS_LAN_SENDER><Fri Dec 08 08:31:56.157 2006 GMT Standard
Time><thread=1136 (0x470)>

I have also tried pushing out the secondary site from the Primary via the
SMS Console but it just hangs there at a status of "Pending" again I have
left this overnight but still nothing.

Both servers are running on Windows 2003 Server SP1 R2 and are part of the
same domain.

Other secondary sites have been created and are working but this was before
SMS was thrown my way, the previous guy who set it up has left and has left
NO documentation.

Any help would be great!

Colin
