Hi,
Wally Mead from the Microsoft SMS team did a very good webcast about SP2
sometime before it was released. He specifically mentioned that it is fine
to deploy the SP2 Advanced client before actually installing SP2 on your SMS
Site Servers (and supported).
He also demonstrated the two common ways to deploy the SP2 Advanced client.
One is the standard push method specifying the "Always install client"
option from the SMS console. The other method is to create an SMS
Advertisement to distribute the new SP2 Advanced client to machines. There
is a package definition file built into SMS 2003 SP2 which you can use to do
this.
Cheers,
David

Today our SMS hierarchy contains a central site \ 9 primary sites with
sms2003 with SP1 installed, using advanced security. There are approx
13000
sp1 desktop clients within our organization. Are there any issues with
upgrading the client PCs with with SP2 clients ahead of the Primaries \
Central Site. Is there any lost functionality with these clients? Is
there a
"Best Practices" white paper someone can post how to deploy SP2 clients
in
large organizations with SP1 already installed on them.
