install sms 2003

hi,
im new to sms, i want to install and configure sms 2003 on my windows
2000 sp 3 and i dont know how to go abt doing it..main purpose of
installing sms is to distribute software and patches to the other
computers in my network ( no i dont have a domain set up)..also do i
need to install sqlserver to install sms2003.. can somebody help me how
i can go abt doing this..any help is appreciated..thank you
