Hi,
You can use server shares as distribution points without the need to install
a SMS on the server. However be aware that SMS makes no attempt at reducing
network traffic to the remote DP. That is: SMS assumes you have good
connectivity to the share. Using a secondary site will allow you to control
when and how communications happens and all communication is compressed.
Further you should consider the max number of threads in dist.manager if you
plan to have many remote DPs.
