Ok, here's the situation...
I have a W2K3 site server with all roles assigned and have extended AD.
Everything seems ok, except I'm having two main issues:
1) Advertisements are being created successfully, according to the logs, but
they are not appearing on any client.
2) When I try to use any remote tool (other than remote assistance) with my
XP clients, it times out while it's waiting for the user to give permission.
However, on the XP machine, no prompt ever displays to ask permission. Also,
on the clients, if I go into Remote Control in control panel and click "Show
Status," I get an error saying "Cannot display current remote control status.
The remote control agent service is not started."
So, I'm thinking these might be related, maybe not. Anyway, my first step
in debugging was to run the MPTroubleshooter. I did so and everything passed
except for MPCERT HTTP request functionality, which failed. The solution
says "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." I tried
manually going to http://<mpname>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mpcert and
http://<mpname>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mpcert and both give the expected results. I
checked my mpsetup log and it says installation successful.
Any ideas?
