I just wanted to throw this out there for anyone who is testing SMS 2003 in
a lab environment.
I am using Microsoft Virtual PC and running 3 Virtual Machines
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/virtualpc/
1 2k3 DC
1 SMS 2003 and SQL server
1 Windows XP Pro
I can easily run this on my workstation and even my notebook. You must have
enough hard drive space and a minimum of 1gig of RAM. I have a parent base
2003 member server build and did a differential disk to that parent for each
server. This way I never have to rebuild a bare metal server(don't forget to
sysprep). With the local only network option all the Virtual PCs can
communicate with each other but will not pass any data through the host pc
to the network...Totally Isolated Lab right on 1 pc!!!
The beauty of having SMS 2003 in a Virtual Lab is if you goof up....you can
close down the servers and not save the changes.
I saved myself HOURS of time and just wanted to share :) Good way to test
drive SMS without the headaches and hassles of long and tedious server
builds and rebuilds
Good Luck!
Brandon
