Sherry,
Thank you very much for your information. It is very much appreciated.
we are a nonprofit so while it still costs money which we don't have the
savings are considerable compared to a corporate license.
Once again thank you. Once we purchase this there is a good chance I may be
posting again. :-)

Correct; I meant I simply don't know. Where I work, we have a couple
people
outside of my team which keep track of licensing compliance, negotiating,
all
that stuff. I simply have no clue how much it costs us for licensing.
It's
all automagical for me. :-)
On a side note: still going w/ConfigMgr? Cool! Another
suggestion...before
you spend $$, if you haven't yet done so, there's a VHD available to check
it
out before you install in production; or several other online resources to
confirm it'll really be what you want/need for your 2 servers and 20
clients.

I think Sherry meant she didn't know, we are allowed to post whatever we

answering stuff we don't know. :-)

Thank for replying Sherry.
When you say you can't answer the licensing question does that mean you
can't because you are not sure or does that mean that MVP's are not
permitted to answer such question?
I ask because if it is the latter then I will need to look elsewhere
for an
absolute answer.
After posting this I came to this conclusion from research but I want
to be
absolutely sure before purchasing.
We need a Server license for each server we will run this off of (which
in
our case it will be 1) and we will need a CAL (or I believe they are
called
ML "monitoring license" with some products) for each workstation we
wish to
monitor.
The number of administrators that will administrate the server does not
affect licensing.
I just need to verify if this is correct or not. Like i mentioned if
you
are not permitted to answer such a question do you have an email
address
that I could have such a question answered.
The only email address to Microsoft I found wanted to charge money. I
really don't feel this is a quesiton I should have to pay for since I
am
trying to make sure I am staying in compliance.
Thanks again.

I can't answer the licensing question; but perhaps redirect you. For
that
size environment (less than 30 servers, less than 500 workstations),
you
might want to consider System Center Essentials instead of System
Center
Configuration Manager (SMS)

Hi,
We are looking into installing SMS. We have a small LAN 2 Servers,
Windows
2000 and Windows 2003. We have 20 workstations.
Basically we want to install it on one of the servers (not sure
exacty
which
one yet we are in planning stages). Then we want to have the ability
for
2
administrators to access and use it.
What would our licensing requirements be?
We don't need a CAL for each workstation it would be monitoring,
correct?
If you feel this may be better answered in another newsgroup please
let
me
know.
thank you.
