Ok, apparently I'm too impatient! The virtual directories did
finally show up in the SMSWEB site after a few minutes.

However, the website is stopped and I can't start it (being used by
another process) Is this the normal behaviour because SMS is
listening on that port now?
Nope the website should be started. check out which process is
listening to 8080 using netstat -a -n -p tcp

It actually did start after a reinstall.

However, I'm now having a problem explained in another post where ccmsetup.exe can't find an management point in AD.

I have extended the schema and verified the objects are created in the System Management container. Two are there, SMS-MP-<sitecode>-<siteserver> and SMS-SLP-<sitecode>-<siteserver>.

I have also added the Service Locator Point role and a SRV record in DNS (even though I shouldn't need to with the schema extended.)

It appears that ccmsetup is trying to talk on port 80 even though I've created a custom webiste and set it to use 8080. Not sure if that is the actual root cause of the problem.

IIRC you can set the communication port as a command line parameter.
