Does anyone know if you can write an SMS query (SMS 2003) that will give
you
the total size of all the workstations' "My Documents" folders in a
particular collection?
SMS itself will not do this...
Background: The folder re-direction GPO we have implemented does not work
because of duplicate file/folder names in the local "My Documents" and the
share to which it is being re-directed. We have a solution, but I want to
get a feel for how much data is stored locally before implementing the
solution because we might not have enough disk space on our file servers
once
the re-direction actually starts working and starts dumping all the data
to
the file servers.
Here's an idea though... create a vbscript that locally calculates the total
size of the My Documents folder. Create a local file named:
<machinename>_<total MB>.flg
substitute the variables in brackets with the actual data. Create an
advertisement that runs this vbscript on every workstation. Enable software
file inventory of *.flg flag type. Now you can query on this file...
