Building a CMDB with SMS2003? (noobie)

We are about to buid a CMDB, and first we need to get a proper inventory-list
of our 500 servers, 1000 PCs, 4000 WYSE thin clients, and lots of Citix
switches and printers.
We allreadey have SMS2003. Could this help us to build this database? At
least gathering harware and software from servers an PCs?
