Client upgrade (2.0 to 2003) and MachineID

Hi,
I would like my SMS client to keep its MachineID after upgrading it from an
SMS 2.0 client to an SMS 2003 advanced client.
I would retrieve the MachineID (ItemKey field from the System_DISC table)
for the SMS 2.0 client from the SMS 2.0 site server. Then, I would generate a
DDR for it and send it to the SMS 2003 site server. Then, I would upgrade the
client from SMS 2.0 to SMS 2003 (advanced client). When the client is
upgraded, I would like it to update its existing record in the System_DISC
table with its new data (if any). Is this scenario possible?
