Re: Collecting Computer Description

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi, Lat,

I was wondering if you can tell as to which tablename did it contain the
Computer Description info. I tried serching it but no luck.
I also would like to query my managed systems and include the Computer
Description info in the result.

I checked my mof file and did say "true" already on the setting but there is
another one that says "other description". Did you have to set that to "True"
as well?

Thanks :- )

Thanks Kim, that has done the trick!
I have noticed that there are lots of other options in sms_def.mof which are
set to FALSE. Is there a full list somewhere which shows what is enabled and
what is disabled by default?

Depends on what you want to do.
Just enabling reporting an additional attribute is as simple as modifying
the false keyword into true for the attribute.
Yes, the edit can be done using notepad.

Kim,
I have never modified any of the mof files before. Is it easy to do?
Also, can I use the notepad do edit it?
Thanks!

You'll have to modify the sms_def.mof file in inboxes\clifiles.src\hinv
first to inventory it.
If I am not mistaken it is in the Operatingsystem class.

We use Computer Description in System Properties/Computer Name for our
asset
tags and I am trying to get all the asset tags collected along with
other
information using SMS.
Is there a way to do this as I can't seem to find it when I try and
create
a
new query?
Thanks
