Compile MOF on reference machine?

Hello,
Is it possible to compile an extended sms_def.mof onto a reference machine
to include as part of the advanced client configuration process on reference
machine? That way new machines have the latest mof and are collecting the
necessary info? Or is it best to do this after the deployment process, once
the image is deployed?
I am trying to identify what limitations this approach would have if the mof
compilation process is done on reference machine as part of the image
process.
