Software Inventory and Putting Meaningfull Application Name to Files Found

Hello,
We recently setup an SMS 2003 server and all clients with no problems. We
started to look into the software invetory aspect of the application. It
seems when doing a query we need to request all machines running a
particular EXE and Version to know the client is running say Office XP SP1.
This would require us defining each EXE and version associated with each
application we want to track. Does there exist something from either
Microsoft or some third party that will allow us to literally just ask for a
software list broken up by client and even application that will
automatically know EXE version XXX is Office XP and EXE version XXX is
Netscape Navigator? I am hoping someone offers a plugin for SMS that has a
database of most known applications and versions that can utilize what SMS
discovers to get me what I am looking for.
Thanks for any information you can provide.
Thanks,
Ken
