Yes, that is correct. However all this will do is extract another setup
routine that you can uses to install else where.
You will get lots of debate on what is the best packaging software around,
however if you are going to hire a programmer that I would recommend to use
what ever they like and then get your team trained on it.
The 3 big packaging software are (listed in no particular order):
SMS Installer
Wise (Package Studio)
InstallShield

Hello,
Recently we setup SMS server. We have never used it before. Now we are
working on creating packages to distribute the software. I decided to try
SMS Installer first.
When I try to install it, it says that it can be installed only on SMS
server. Is this correct? I do not like it because it means that we have
to
start installing all of our software on that server in order to create a
package. It will be a mess on that server. Is there a way around this?
I
want to have it installed on the workstation that I will reformat and
reuse
every time I create a new package.
Is that a better software that SMS installer and easier to use. We are
not
programmers here, we are the network team. Will we have to hire a
programmer?
