ah... . . It's a typo in the KB article. . notice:

>From the KB:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Actual path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Notice the actual path has a space in "Windows NT". That's probably all you
need to fix. Below is the script I used to test. . and it works for me. . .
If you still have trouble after you change your version, try mine. Copy
everything between the ************'s (not including the *****'s), and paste
into SMS Installer.
