Sure, you could deploy the client first. You'd either want to know your site
code(s) now and assign the clients at install, or using a gpo computer
startup script, have your clients find their site code once you go live. You
could leave the client running/enabled while you build; the clients will get
policies from your primary sites once they start offering policies.
Here's a GPO SMS2003 Computer startup script you could easily modify for
ConfigMgr: http://www.myitforum.com/articles/8/view.asp?id=10774
fyi, this newsgroup isn't as closely monitored by ConfigMgr admins. You
might want to consider checking out
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=1818&SiteID=17
and
http://www.myitforum.com/forums, the subforum for System Center Confguration
Manager. Lots more admins hang out there. And if you haven't done so yet;
get budget money lined up to get to http://www.mms-2009.com next year. IMO,
it's better than any class you could take. Thousands of ConfigMgr Admins to
network with there!

Hi......
Our co. is currently on a tight schedule were looking to deploy SCCM
to about 12000 distributed over 4 major and 8 minor sites in about
3-4mths and we thinking the client deployment will be the most time
consuming and troublesome, assuming once we've finalised our site
design.
I'm wondering whether its actually for us to deploy the Client Agent
to our PCs before our actual infrastructure is in place assuming we
have our full infrastructure design and documented with the required
parameters and values for the SCCM configuration.
We will most likely be doing the infrastructure and client deployment
simultaneously, so I was thinking whether we can use some our existing
deployment tool (internally developed) to deploy the Client Agent and
then disable the service on the workstations and when the
infrastructure is all ready activate the SCCM agent on the
workstations and hopefully it will connect to the associated site and
dp?
many thanks
