RE: Remote tools

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Problem resolved. Thanks to the link
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc181198.aspx. It read: To
establish a Remote Tools connection, you must have Use Remote Tools and Read
permissions for the COLLECTION that contains the client. If you are not a
local administrator, you must also be included in the Permitted Viewers list.

I found that the Account had read permissions and Use remote tools for
Collection (instance = all Instances). I modifyed the account under Sms
Admin Console-> Security Rights to have read permissions and use remote
tools for ALL SYSTEMS. This resolved my issue with a non admin accounts
being able to connect to a client computer using SMS admin console--> remote
Tools Connection. Thank you Rob

Dan,

You added the user to the Permitted Viewers list and then removed the user
account from the local admin group on the SMS site server, which was then
used (via the SMS Admin console) to remotely connect to a client but failed?

Does this help?

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc181198.aspx

Could be that this user account isn't in the right group, or permissioned up
correctly in SMS, and that it was only working because the user account was
present as a local admin?

My question is. If i created a new user in the "Remote Tools Client Agent
Properties-->security tab. Does that account need to be in the local
administrator Group in order for that user to use SMS Admin console -->
Remote Tools. Reason why I ask is, I removed an account from the local admin
group and that account can no longer use remote tools to connect to a SMS
client. Error reads as follows: The currently logged on user does not have
the rights to acess the client machine. You must provide the username,
domain and password of an account in the clients remote control operators
groupIn an effort to secure our envioroment. I Thank you in advance for your
input.
