Hello EJ
What you could do is simply update the DP at night when enough bandwidth
is
available.
Now a third party utility from 1E allows you to manage the bandwidth to a
DP.
www.1e.com
Hope it helps

Thanks for you prompt response; this is really helpful. As for the
secondary
site suggestion we had made the same suggestion during the design phase
of
our SMS environment. To make a long story short they (Corp, 3rd party
design
team) did not take our suggestion. One more question is there any way to
programmatically (script, registry hack) turn on and off this component.

Stop the distribution manager component.
PS: This is the reason why I advice the use of secondary sites over
distribution point. You have a server there, and secondary site
licenses are
free of charge.

Here is my scenario; we just setup a branch office . We have setup a
file
and
print server at the branch office and also we are using it as our
distribution point in our SMS 2003 SP1 environment. Once the
distribution
point was setup the packages started to get sent from the primary
site
server. This has saturated the WAN to the branch office. What service
do I
turn off on the branch office server or the primary site server to
stop
the
downloads from running. Any help in this matter would be greatly
appreciated
